He looks like he getting pumped up nicely. He will cross, your aro is only 8 months from tag date, be patient and good thing will happen. Crossing can take some time just like a quality red takes time to show its full potential. I still suggest that you use standard output light (shop light), as HO fixtures will darken or burn the backs of already crossed aros. I use single tube T8 fixtures over our stock tanks with 6500K or daylight bulbs; they look very nice and still are plenty bright. You can get the fixtures at Home Depot for $35 and the bulbs are only $5-10.

im using a power compact light fixture. 2 x 55 watt bulbs. just regular white flo tubes. how is this?

Power compacts are HO (high output) which are significantly more intense and hotter than standard output lights.

I run these on most my 6 foot tanks with just one bulb:

I also use these on some of the 4 & 6 foot tanks:

I use these bulbs which are a little soft and I they have a 6700K with is perfect white which I also use.

I did a test myself awhile ago I had a AA+ Grade Bukit Merah Blue Base Golden Head from DFI. He was under power compacts for the first two years of his life and had no 6th row development. I moved him into another tank just under a single tube T12 daylight shoplight, within 4-5 weeks he was very close to being fully crossed.
