My red is about a year and a bit I think. As for the color showing I think it did show a little late but I am in no rush for the color to come out. In the beggining he had a lot of blue shine but then within the past 2-3 weeks the blue started to change color.

Hey everyone thanx for all the nice comments here is a pic of my Red with flash. The flash washes out most of the color but its kind of cool to see the color starting to show on the rims of the scales even with the flash.:D

The Tinfoil Barbs should be fine but should be proper size. In my tanks my aros loved to eat there scales. Also they work as great cleaners in the tank. They will eat left overs and even the aros waste.
