Thanks for the head-up Kenta! I immediately started doing 50% water changes every day after you posted. After a few days the smell started to dissipate and then I nervously went camping last weekend. Well I got back and everyone is still doing fine. The smell is back, slightly, but no...

I've had much the similar experience as Kenta. Small phoenix tend to get along, but large phoenix (if introduced to each other as adults) kill on sight. Currently I have a 15" and 10" phoenix sharing a 70 or so gallon tank. I have separated them a number of times due to over...

EEYY: I don't mean to seem like I was taking a defensive position in my statement above. I was merely asking the question of 'why you don't like smaller FF's?' If it's merely a matter of turn-over (which I assume means death-toll) then aren't nearly all fish more suspect to dying due to living...

Well I purchased the last 2 phoenix at King Ed yesterday and I must say, it was quite worth the purchase/gamble. Upon picking them up, I noticed that they weren't skittish at all (1 male, 1 female) and when I got them back home, acclimated them and out of the bag; they didn't flutter off to the...

Perhaps there's truth to Sand madness! To EEYY I ask: Why not smaller FF? If people like watching an Arowana growing up, then why not a FF? I realise they're not the most hardy fish at such a small size, but their physical shapes--along with their personalities--change dramatically over the...

This pic has an autolevels in Photoshop The water in the tank is 100% from my large tank that has quite a bit of wood--considering the amount of water I put in it--so the tannins can be seen even in this tiny tank. Eventually I'd like crystal clear water, but I wanted a more or less already...

I know it's rather low quality, but here's at least 'a' pic of the new phoenix. The 2nd one from the left is a male, the rest are female.

A quick video I uploaded to Youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbhbG-sT6Ik There's no definite way to tell if a phoenix is male or female; however, generally the females are stubbier--that is shorter and taller than that of their male counterpart. In the video, the one on the left at the...

Well I was at King Ed last week and they had a tank full of 1-2" phoenix; but the tank had a sign stating they were all sold. But I enthusiastically asked if they were getting more and was told to come back on Wednesday. I didn't have time yseterday, but payed a visit this afternoon to find...

    :'( My XP3 just died

I just did a filter rinse, and after 2 hours, I've decided that it's dead. So currently I only have 1 eheim pro 3 running for 1 aro, 2 prochilodus, 1 small tiger, 1 small bichir. So what do you all think? Can that run my tank on just the one eheim? I only run my tank at about 60%, so about...

    Aro update June 2k8

I posted these in my tank update post, but that's not terribly appropriate, so here's a good one. You If you look closely at the tiger's head (on his left or the picture's right) you can make out a faint dot. This is where he has a hole in his head from when he had the huge pussy...

    Tank update!

Well I finally broke. So here it is, here's the 1st photo I've uploaded anywhere online in 2008! ISO 100 with flash. Photobucket only allows 1MB files max, so I lost over 2MB in this photo. Does anyone know a photo storage site which will let me store 3MB files? *Edit* I wasn't happy...

    Tank update!

Don't get me wrong, aro eats SW if I feed them; heads cut or not. But his anus started swelling up and after I stopped feeding them, his anus returned to normal. My FF is approximately 14." It may be 15, but I've got a hard time measuring such a quick moving fish. The tank is 18" wide, and...

    Tank update!

My aro is from the October 2007 order. He's still quite small and has a hard time defecating the heads. My large Phoenix is quite a bit larger than the Aro. I'd say that the Aro will possibly be longer than the Phoenix within a year, but will be 'smaller' in body mass for probably 2 or 3.

    Tank update!

My aro loves superworms as well. But cutting the heads off was both nasty and time consuming. Also, I remember being told that they're basically cardboard until you gutload them. So unless I raise 1000 on good food sources, and then feed a special meal and freeze right away; then I'm...

    Tank update!

Well it's finally over. I've survived the most brutal winter I've ever experienced--that is, the first winter I've been in the work-force AND in grave-yards at that. So I haven't been here in a while, because I've just been trying to survive. But now I'm back! As I haven't got updated pics...

    Huge bump on Datnoid's head!

Things have taken a turn for the worse. Tu'big has a white dot on the bump now and there is a small pimple looking thing growing elsewhere on his head. I take it my fish is going to die; so my question is simply, whether any of my other fish are at risk, if I don't take him out and kill him...

    Huge bump on Datnoid's head!

It seems I'm not out of trouble quite yet. I may not be in trouble at all; but the lump is still there. Upon close inspection, I can see a small hole where I assume puss or something spewed forth and now there's a small lump with a pinhole. I'm continuing to do water changes daily or bi-daily...

    Huge bump on Datnoid's head!

Thank you Jackson for your IMMENSE help. The scissors make it MUCH easier to cut them up and they no longer have time to bleed all over me. Also, the warm water trick worked like a charm. The aro seems to like the worms a lot more now that there's much less dirt in them. I even spent some...
