Amazing Arowana Hobbyist journey...

I am not aware about this forum until ken pm'd me about it. Thanks for the invite Ken.

I must admit that I am not that active in fish forums anymore as I have moved on to my other hobby - high fidelity audio. I still have my one tank, the 1300 gallon in my basement. My wife wanted to keep the old 210 as a second setup - but I refused because I wanted to lighten my workload (hobby related) a little bit. We actually spent quite a bit of money to have the floor in our new home reinforced for the second tank - but no, no second setup for me for now.

I don't regret going all-out at all. The bigger tank made my arowanas much happier and healthier. It also made my life so much easier. I used to do 2 waterchanges per week on the community, now I only do one waterchange every other week. I still test my water parameters (ph, ammonia, nitrite & nitrate) once in a while, so far so good. I am very particular about ammonia - so far, it is kept at zero, even after two weeks of no waterchange. Ph now how been reduced to below 7.

The other concern I have with such a big tank is relative humidity - I used a dehumidifier during the summer to keep it below 50% - but I turned it off and put it away since the furnace started to run last fall. RH dropped to 20% during the colder months. Now that the weather is started to get warmer (in Edmonton anyways ;)), I know I should get busy and place the last piece of the puzzle - an air exchanger. The dehumifier does it's job, but it consumes way too much electricity (it consumes like a fridge) and hey - we want to go green. I am also starting to run the bathroom fan in the room (on timer) to help take the excess humidity out.

ok, here are the latest pictures that I have (same as the one posted at MFK)

for the folks that are too tired to click the link to MFK.

Enjoy

A pleasure to be here & more power to Arowanaclub Canada

It's ridiculous how your tank looks nice. Puts mines to shame... Looks really peaceful too, no torn fins nor tails. What do you feed all of those monsters?

wow thats a lot of aros in there! wonder if they will ever spawn? then again the eggs or fry would be eaten......

the tank is peaceful, but there are still a lot flaring going on. I feed mainly chopped beefheart and arowana pellets. I only feed 3-4 times per week.

He is a nice guy + lots of humorous

How big is your listening room. In edmonton there are high end fish store and high end music store.

thanks. life is too short to take it too seriously.

The room is 25' x 26'.

I haven't been to a fish store for a while

and yes, there are a few high end audio stores. I think I will sell some high end audio equipments in the future as well, so, if you need help in spending your children's inheritance, let me know
