Hi All,

So a bit of sad news, my arowana jumped out of the tank cuz he got spooked. Luckily i was standing right there so my friend was able to put him back in. However he has a little cut on his lower fin, i think its called anal fin.

I have highlighted the rip in the picture, its inside the red circle.

My question is, how will start to heal? Do i have to cut the part that is hanging or will it just fall off? What kind of time frame do you think it will heal in. He is about 10" , rip is about 3/4th of an inch. Should i do anything or just let nature take its course?

P.S. this is not my fish but i just wanted to show where the rip was.

turn up the water temp and add salt...will grow back n heal in no time....good water quality helps too....and cover your tank better!!!!

Torn soft fins are a very common injury for aro's that jump (I've had it happen on several occasions). This doesn't look too serious, and it's not likely that surgery is required. Take the above advice - dose with aquarium salt, increase temp, and frequent water changes, and let nature take its course.

For these types of injuries I strongly recommend cutting the damaged fin away. I doctored up your photo to show you where to cut.

When mine jumped out I never cut it and now it has a slight defect. I think if it happens again I'll cut it.

Boydo, thanks that makes a lot of sense.

Is there a thread on there or if you can provide any tips on how to perform the procedure?

RDFISHGUY, how long did it take urs to heal?
