"Suggested" ph range by arowana:

Silver: 6 - 8
Black: 6 - 6.5
Jardini (with spotted): 7.0 - 7.5
X-back: 7.0 - 7.5
Green: 5 - 8
Gold: 6.5 - 7.5
Red: 5.0 - 6.5 (Surprised!!!)

You could consider these are just supplemental statistic to think about but not a "must have" situation.

BUT IF this is true, a lower ph level could be good for your reds in the long run!!

I have considered adjusting the ph to a lower level but I am afraid that I wouldn't be able to keep it stable. Swings in ph would be more harmful than a steady higher ph (imho).

One way of lowering ph that I use is to place a large piece of driftwood in the tank, the tannins should slowly lower the ph and hopefully keep it there without me having to mess with it. The driftwood has already been in the tank for a while before I add the aro's as the wood releases a lot of tannins initially. Water changes over time has reduced this to a stable level (I hope).

I saw that ph level mention somewhere in dragon book as well. I was surprise they have such a low ph for red. What gonna happen if they don't live in that ph range for long run?
