Here is the last arrowana I will ever own

That's definitely thick enough, but I'd be worried about it cracking when the aro jumps or when taking off the lids for service. Is it tempered glass? IMHO, you can't go wrong with acrylic, except for the extra cost. It's not bad if you consider piece of mind.

FS: Seachem Matrix Bio Filter Media

Chen, I'll try and snap some pictures with my camera phone - which really sucks by the way! My filtration consists of 30L of bioballs in the corner overflow of the tank, 40L of Seachem Matrix, 50L of Sera Siporax, and a fluidized sandbed filter in the 90G sump. I'm selling the matrix because I...

Here is the last arrowana I will ever own

Sorry for your loss. I felt the same way after losing one of my reds. Decided to never use glass lids again! Currently using 1/2" cell cast acrylic lids braced on the ends to try and keep them from sagging. Each lid (18"x30") weighs over 30 lbs, so I don't have to put any additional weights...

    My com tank

Beauty! I've always wanted to have discus with my aro tank, but worried about water conditions. How big is the tank? What's your filtration and maintenance schedule like?

    Hello from Cali.

LOL, you have enough friends that own aros that you just need to hop around and look at them. Pssst... I'm downsizing you know? ;)

    72" light

2 x 36" fixtures will cost more than a single 72" one, unless you can find a deal on them. 2 to 4 T5's are probably more than enough for an aro tank unless your growing plants on the bottom. Depth of the tank will also play a factor in how much penetration is needed. Going with T5HO's give...

    UV Sterilizer (In-line)

Phosphates and nitrates are present in tap water. Only way you can take them out is by filtering, chemically removing, or through consumption by plants. Running GFO can help control levels, but I agree that controlled feeding and lighting is a better solution. Planted tanks/refugiums or ATS...

    filter within a filter?

It'll be easier to run the floss in the compartment where the black filter foam is. That way, you just toss out the floss instead of washing the foam. Ran a FX5 back in the day. Don't you find it a hassle to open up?

    UV Sterilizer (In-line)

What are you planning to run in the phosban reactors? How is it going to be pumbed? GFO works best when it's slightly fluidized, to prevent clumping.

    filter within a filter?

Come to think of it, with a tank your size and bioload, a fluidized bed filter might not be efficient enough as the main means of mechanical filtration, unless your planning to build a big one. Any way you can modify the drip tray of your sump somehow? Post pics of the sump and maybe someone...

    72" light

Aro tanks shouldn't have too much lighting. Seen cases where intense lighting have caused gold aros back to darken, but not sure what the outcome will be on reds? MH will probably give you algae problems if your nutrient levels are on the high side.

photos of newly arrived CV Maju February 2010 order

You can get a fish that's much larger than the aros, but won't kill or eat them. This should help keep them all in line. Unfortunately, one of the downsides of a com tank is torn fins and dropped scales. There's nothing you can do unless you partition them apart.

    UV Sterilizer (In-line)

Phosban reactors running granular ferric oxide only bind phosphates and won't help clarify the water. You can add carbon in the upper portion, to help clarify the water. However, results are only temporary until the carbons absorbtion capacity is depleted and has the chance to leach back out...

    filter within a filter?

You can used a fluidized sand bed filter in your sump if you just want to polish your water. Has a really small footprint, and as a plus, it will really increase your bacterial colonies. It also doesn't need a whole lot of maintenance and no floss to change.

    new year new project

There's a ton of controllers available for the NA market. Currently thinking about purchasing the Neptune Apex controller for my reef tank. Having a controller makes life all too easy. You can pretty much control every parameter with dosing pumps, auto top off systems, auto water change, DC...

    anyone using or heard of.....

This reply might be a little late, but better late than never. Check out the titanium heater/controller combo offered by Jehmco. They come with a Ranco controller, which many people swear by. I run 1500 watts (1000 + 500) for 3 years with no problems. Friends of mine have used the Finnex...

    Water Movement

Vortech's won't work on tanks thicker than 3/4". Also, they've been known to have issues with crazing acrylic tanks from the heat generated from the dryside (motor side). I'm running 2 MP40W's on my reef tank currently, but will be switching out for closed loop during my next upgrade with 2...
