    2 aro tank update.

Wow, that's a lot of wattage. If I put so many lights on top of the tank, I'm going to have such a hard time during feedings cause I can't even open the glass lids! I'll have to remove some of the lights first, which I already do. I have to take off the 4 ft one just to open the lid...

    2 aro tank update.

Hey guys, haven't been active too much as of late, but figured I'll post a quick update. The tank was recently moved to the basement of the house, and ever since the move, the red has gotten a little more aggressive. I'm seeing split fins on the black on a regular basis. They heal overnight...

    synodontis (where to find them)

Mike at Finatics has big ones for cheap. They cost 20-30 bucks at petsmart for a 1 incher, you go to Finatics, and you can get 5 incher for about 10 bucks i think.

    My first Asian ARO

very nice... one thing though... is that crushed/fossilized coral as substrate? I see you have a bunch of 7 stripe/kigoma frontosa, so maybe you're using this substrate to help buffer and raise the pH. I don't think that's too good for the aro, as they prefer softer water. The soft water...

    Coralife web page?

ouch...that hurts. you should try www.pnaquaria.ca they are a canadian (well, mostly GTA based) online marketplace where people can sell/buy/trade aquarium equipment and livestock. it's a pretty popular site around here, so I wouldn't be surprised if you're already a member.

Pix of my RTG purchase back in December

Lucky's a nice RTG. If it's on pellets that's a very good thing. I wish mine took pellets, but the best I can do is gut feed Hikari floating pellets to my superwoms.

    Can you say "fin nipping"?

I find that once in a while my biggest endlicheri can get pretty nippy too. It is very evident from the ripped fins on the other bichirs.

    Water

I change about 100 gallons of water a week from all the tanks I have combined. There is no way I can store that amount of water in buckets/containers, so I also treat water straight from the tap as it goes into the tanks. If there was a more effective way to age water, I would do it. I also got...

    tilted aro?? and split tailfin

tankmates? perhaps it is keeping it's eye on a tankmate below. if not, then my best guess would be a swim bladder problem.

    barbels

this is true... remove any hard water flow and it should grow back straight. if there is significant flow that affects the positioning of the barbels, then it will not grow back straight...instead, it will be slanted or pointing in another direction. this is from personal experience.

it's safer that way in case you lose beneficial bacteria.

    Filter Maint.

what kind of filter are you talking about? I usually rinse my Rena canisters out about once a month. Keep in mind that you are NOT rinsing in tap water, but aquarium water. This way, you will not kill off beneficial bacteria. Since I have two filters, I alternate. Every couple of weeks I do...
