No you don't have to have an overflow boxes. Drop by your local fish store and you can see how they do it. It's fairly basic, sometimes with just an sch40 elbow, a strainer or pvc standpipe. Overflows help hide your pipes/fittings, act as a strainer and control your water level. You may need...

I have never seen a really nice aros at dragon in Mississauga. Lucky's is really expensive unless you get their low grade aros. Gold Garden has very reasonable prices for all their aros.

Out of the stores peacockbass mentioned, I'd recommend Gold Garden if you want to check out aros. It's right on Steeles next to the Tim Hortan's and Wendy's off Midland.
