Amazonia Aquatics - Calgary

This was a tricky shop to find, but well worth the effort. They are tucked away in a mall a little to the north of Calgary that reminded me of Suncteck city in Singapore.

The store is right next to another store called "Critter bites" that focusses on reptile and insect foods I think? I don't know, as I ran out of time chatting with the owner of Amazonia Aquatics about all things related to the tropical fish hobby, and so I had to rush off to my next appointment when I found myself pressed for time!

I think the owner of this shop is one of the most knowledgeable fish store owners I have come across.

The store has a focus on nano fish (which makes sense given their space constraints), and they do an excellent job keeping their tanks extremely clean. I took a few videos of the tanks here that I will share a bit later in the post. It really is impressive how well the tanks and livestock are maintained.

For the serious fish keeper, this a "do not miss visiting this store" kind of store if you are passing through Calgary and want to check out fish stores (like I was).

The owner has a fondness for African cichlids. He was very enthusiastic as he told me about how he and his staff are into breeding them and sourcing good genetics. This conversation extended to angelfish (Pterophyllum) too; I was shown some beautiful fire red angelfish that the owner had bred. He showed me many others that he had bred as well. I am going to post up this review now and finish it later with some uploads of videos of the angelfish, etc.
