I was wondering if anyone on the forum has a tortoise. My wife and kids want one so bad. I'd like to hear from others experience with them.
Anyone keep a tortoise?

i keep a sulcata tortoise..he's about 9" right now. eatign machine. they're fairly easy to take care of too

How do you manage the Sulcata in winter? keep it indoors?

i've got a leopard tortoise... and before that i had a redfoot.
it depends on the size you want.
there are smaller species and larger ones.
tropical species like red foots need high humidity and a moist veggie/fruit diet with a moderate protein intake.
desert/dry habitat species like leopards and sulcatas don't like excessive humidity and prefer more of a grassy diet with low protein intake.
consider what you're goign to house it in before jumping in on it.
