Just returned from an unforgettable trip to Sabah, Borneo, where I had the rare opportunity to visit the renowned MerLion Dreamfish Arowana Farm. For any serious aquarist or Asian Arowana enthusiast, this place is nothing short of magical.
The farm is nestled in the lush landscapes of Sabah, and from the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by a team of passionate professionals who live and breathe Arowana care and breeding. Their knowledge and dedication to the craft were truly inspiring. I spent days learning about the meticulous breeding process, water quality management, and the genetics behind some of the most stunning Arowana varieties (the Ocean Blue, Blue Jade, Snakeskin, Harmony, and Red Arowana). I even had a chance to harvest the Ocean Blue and Viper line!
One of the highlights of the visit was the chance to hand-select Asian Arowanas that will be making their way to Canada this November. These fish are absolutely amazing —vibrant reds, deep blues, and flawless scales. Each one was chosen with care, ensuring top-tier quality and health for Canadian collectors and hobbyists.
This experience deepened my appreciation for the art and science behind Arowana breeding. It’s not just about beauty—it’s about lineage, environment, and expert care. I’m beyond excited for these fish to arrive!
Thanks to Theo from Dragonfish Canada for assisting with the visit!
