hello all,i have 2 aro tanks and both fishes have same problems.their mouths

slightly open / close at all time but there are no signs of lacking air ( since they

are not grasping for air on the surface ).ph=7;no2=0;no3=0;nh3=0 and each

tank has 1 air bubble bar and a power head.could anyone tell me if it's normal?

and how to correct these .i checked all the lfs their fishes do not have these

problem.

thanks you all in advance.

ps :these are not new tanks , i have them for 2 yrs now.

Tank size? Temp? Did you do something different recently?

additional infor

hello all, sorry for lacking information, there weren't any new tank mates and

the tempurature is always steady at 86 F.As far as remembered ,it happened

right after i introduced the fish and it has been like that ever since.personally,

i think ,there is some thing wrong with my water or may be the way i prepare

it.I tried to find out the way to fix it (even spent lots of time consulted with

LFS but had no luck).I have no where to turn for help .luckily , i found this

helpful website . I hope you guys can help.

thanks you all in advance.

In terms of water preparation, have you ever tried Seachem PRIME adding to the tape water before?

Probably not the solution of the entire issue, but I would say it's safe for the fish.

If the arowanas are breathing like the way you discribed, it should be either the water quality or the air supply, especially the arowanas have been in your tank for about 2 years.

What's your tank size and what kind of air pump is it?

water preparation

hello ,EEYY,thanks for such a quick response. As for water preparation ,i always

age my water is air bubble for at least a day with sea-chem Prime.i'm using

whisper 60 air pump with LIFETECH ap1600 power head with air tube hook up

to it.I've tried PRIME with aquarium salt (TOPFIN) add to the water.regardless

of the present of salt or not there wasn't any improvement.by the way ,i

always heat up my replacement water every time.To be honest, this is my

second fish with this very same problem.

thanks you very much.

ps. do you add salt to your water? may i ask.my tank size is 120 gal and my ero is 18".

This happen to me once when my heater is too high, its like 32Celcius. I remember there is an article saying that higher temp is lower oxygen so I would recommend lower the temp to 29C and drain out some water and let your canister filter outlet above the water to make some oxygen, also the power head blow should be on the bottom or middle of the tank and not on top where aro is swimming. My is ok now after that lesson. Air bubble might not be enough if your air pump is not strong. Add some aquarium salt is good for aro too.

Aging water in air bubble treatment if effective for the Chlorine, but it won't remove the Chloramine and that is even more dangerous to the fish's gills. Now, get yourself some Prime and start using it.

As for the gulps for air, the warmer the water the less O2 saturation so it is always a very good idea to have at least one source of air (air pump or powerhead with venturi).

Any updates?

check your water if it's good then dont worry about it, is your aro young? i had one before it does that, another does that when he just ate, it's really not much to worry
