Two new pups arrived for me on Saturday. One male, one female.

I could throw a bunch of guess's but I would say Castexi x Schroederi but they look so much like Xingu sp also. I think you have some rays you been keeping on the down low, so you can keep us all guessing
 
lol, a couple people had a heads up these pups where coming but I didn't expect anyone to guess and I would never have guessed it either. Lyder was right with them looking like xingu sp alot and since I sold my xingu the closest thing to them when they are both young is scobina. I don't think many of these are in North America and I only know of one other breeding pair in the states. There are some people overseas that keep these and breed them but being on the banned list makes them a little harder to get over here. They are my favourite of the small ray species.

congrats! keep the pups! might as well since they are quite rare! whats their max size?
 
My male is around 7" and the female around 10" now. I would guess them to get a bit bigger since mine are only couple years old now. It seems my females go through a growth spurt on thier first pregnancy but after that it is slow going. I've tossed around the idea of keeping them and then contact the original breeder to see if he had any other unrelated pups to start a breeding project but just seems like too much work for me at the time. Both parents came from the same breeder and where from two different sets of parents.
 
how about some pic of the parent as well :). it is cool how a 7" male can breed that will save a lot of tank space. I find that female ray always grow faster then the male or maybe it grow fast to certain size then slow down and the male will catch up. Just like how human grow.
