as you know. my rtg developed gill curl even tho i TRIED to keep the water parameters near perfect. any suggestions on how to minimize this? dont want my new aros to get this. i dont know what went wrong. any advice would be great. thanks!

thats what i think it was for my rtg. he was kept in a 18 wide tank. then agian, ive seen other aros in 18 wide tanks that can barely turn but still hasnt developed the curl. as far as water conditions, i know for a fact i do my weekly water changes. anything else i can look into? additives to water, or specific filter media perhaps?

IMO, gill curl is brought on by one or more stress factors, with tank width being maybe the most important.

lack of dissolved oxygen in water and high water temparature can caused to gill curl problem also...

i firmly believe in gently current.. add powerhead seems to cure it on many aro

is that due to the current or as menghun said, lack of dissolved oxygen and powerhead is just increasing oxygen?

I use AQ802s in all my setups with venturi attachment for extra O2 supply. Would that do the trick?!?

Keep us updated Mike, I'm really interested to see if your RTG recovers now that he or she is in the 180gal.

yea...this is because, if the dissolved oxygen in water is not enough, aro tend to breath more frequent to get oxygen, so in this case, the soft membrane at the gill plate will tend to curl...
