So my GHXB is eating like a pig destroying pretty much anything and is especially fond of carnisticks.

What would you guys do?

Pump or not to pump?

Pellets only?

It seems that he is out growing his shine level. Any thoughts?

Thanks and happy fish keeping

For me, I wouldn't pump him.

Rather, i would try my best to maintain him as what it is now.

Ideal grooming of aro, be it red or gold, is to let the color and size developed together. :)

Would it really affect the shine and colour of the fish? So from what I'm understanding it develops it's colour from age?

Aro color developments are dependent on many factors.

Water condition and etc are just 1/3 of it.

Another 1/3 is the tank background and your grooming like tanning and etc

The last 1/3 is the quality of fish.

The faster the growth rate, the slower the color development.

Feed too much and too little, not good. Best is appropriate feeding. :)

The most impt step to grooming aro is can you, the keeper, withstands imperfections like DE and PLJ.

(Imo) Do not over feed (pump) Aro's being kept in captivity. Not only would water perimeters suffer immensely they're not getting the same amount of exercise as the would in wild. You'll end up with a over weight unhealthy fish stuck in a glass/acrylic box.
