What's new at Canadian Aqua Farm

Canadian Aqua Farm Fall Update

The days are getting shorter and the weather is getting wetter. This can only mean one thing here at CAF. Time to get fully emerged back into the fish world. Despite having been rather quiet on the forum over summer there have been some exciting things going on in my fish room. Some of the highlights include a couple of hugely successful koi spawns. I set aside a small group of koi fry in a 240 gallon tank and have been feeding them primarily with Australian Freeze Dried Black Worms. It has been known for some time that discus will grow at a fantastic rate on this food and I wanted to see if similar results could be achieved with koi. The results so far are beyond anything that I could have hoped for. Now at just 4 months old the largest of the koi "babies" are already in the 8"-9" range. This rate of growth is unheard of using tradition koi feeds.

If any one is interested in growing koi in an aquarium over the winter I have some available in a couple of different sizes 3"+/- and 5"+/-. The price for the smaller ones is $8 each and the larger ones are $15 each. I will be happy to make a discounted package price for customers buying multiples. I will also be happy to advise on how to achieve maximum growth, the results that I have enjoyed can easily be duplicated. Once the weather warms up next spring the koi can be transferred to an outdoor pond and will be able to over winter outside going forward but for this winter they should be kept indoors.

On the discus side of things I have exciting news:

1. A massive fall shipment of Forrest discus will be arriving here at CAF in a few weeks!!!
2. I currently have some discus breeding pairs in stock and will be advertising them for sale as time permits in the near future. If interested in a breeding pair feel free to contact me directly.
3. I have been raising a batch of Cobalt fry that were spawned by one of my customers. These fry are the product of a Forrest Cobalt x Deep Blue Gene Cobalt. This is my first experience with a spawn involving the deep blue gene and pleasantly it seems that this is a dominant trait as the fry are already showing good colour although they are only the size of a dime (usually cobalts don't show much colour below 2"). I have only 25 of these fry available. If you are interested in purchasing local raised discus fry please feel free to contact me now and get on the wait list for these guys. They will be ready to go in 1-2 weeks.
