3D backgrounds and stingrays?

I've wondered for a while whether 3D backgrounds would work well in a tank with stingrays. I am thinking that with rays sometimes skimming up and down the sides of the tank that the 3D background would get worn down or perhaps even come loose? Anybody have a 3D background in a larger tank rays?

The one i just got is hard.... but smooth to the touch. Just like a large smooth rock. I cant see it hurting any rays.. in fact, i'll be putting pups in that tank if i get any. I'll be adding another one to my actual ray tank soon. very soon. The brand i am using, all styles and sizes are made from the same materials as well, so they will all be just as tough.

I cant see it getting worn down either. They are rock solid. Coming loose depends on how you install it. Do it right, and it wont come loose.

You'll get a much closer look at mine tonight.
 
As soon as the rays are large enough they will tear it off and cause you issues Guaranteed.....

I will have to dig up the video of my old Henlei carrying around the Silconed slate cave I attached to the back of my tank. Trust me its a bad idea.

I honestly think it would be hard to tear off a background that is siliconed in place on all sides. In fact, you would have trouble tearing one out yourself, if it is installed properly. The front of these backgrounds are about a 1/4" thick befor it hits the foam. That layer is made of some sort of mortar i think. Very hard and rock like.

I think it would be easy for them to rip smaller things down though like the cave you mentioned.

I'll be trying it anyway with my ray tank, i'm very confident they wouldn't be able to budge it. There is no give pushing or pulling.

Prior to me owning one and getting it in the tank. I honestly would have thought the same thing as yourself.

You have obviously never had big rays Joey! lol

I would bet money on this one.
 
Joey you have some fair sized rays. Nothing as big a that Henlei Tim had (or has). That Boesemani must be getting big now.
