Gill Curl Surgery (Massage method)

Well I bought Kenta's aros that have both it's gill curled and did a surgery on both the curled gills. I didn't do the traditional method of cutting the gills except the gill membrane as it look messed up. Then I did the massage method ON the gill plate by slowly massaging the curled gill plate back the way it was before. It may take time but it's a lot better than cutting the gill plate as gill plate don't grow back. I later used a fine sand paper to gently sand the edge of the gill plate even so when the gill membrane starts to grow it won't be messed up. I have done this method since 2004 and works out fine. Takes about 2-4 months for full recovery including the gill membrane which takes a long time to fully grow back to normal.

Will update again in 2-4 months when the gill membrane fully grows back.

I will practice it myself since I got the bbxb for that purpose, was planning doing DE on silver but I gave it away already. Still waiting for Transmore medication from Jay. Unless you want to show me how to use clove oil :D
 
I've got a bottle of transmore you can borrow. Also, Hendri has a video clip of how to do a DE operation, shows it step by step; have you seen it?

Thanks Theo, but I am not planning doing it yet as I am still busy with plywood tank built. I have seen lots of video on youtube but not use if I have seen Hendri. My only concern is will it be back to normal or better after the operation as I only seen the DE operation video but no recovery video on it. If I success I will do DE operation on my red as well.

Best to practice on silver aro first and it will be risky. There are large silver aros with DE that sometimes pops out from buy/sell section. It may sound cruel but sacrifices are always made for best result.

very happy to see more guys in canada doing their own surgery and having the balls to do so! lol
