This is my Absolute Golden Head. It has been in a dark tank for about 2 months. Currently it is 15 inches and only 8 months from tag date. This piece came in with a group of other GH's in March. It had the least amount of gold on his head but he won me over with his personality. He is a ferocious eater.:D

looks awesome...

can u explain to me the reasoning behind having him in a dark tank for 2 months? i always see or hear about wwt, ect...does it matter what age or size and when you are to put them through these procedures for better color??

I think it is great that you are keeping this fish in a dark tank. Personally, I think very few aro keepers are willing to do the WTT approach long long term. Thus, it makes sense to see how these fish develop in the absence of WTT.

Nice fish, wonderful photos.

awseome piece!! has full pearlies!!! i cant wait til mine get full pearls as well! any head shots!?

Thanks Mike, your piece has full pearlies just harder to see in the WT when you're ready to change your guy to the dark tank you'll be amazed at the scale and pearly definition you'll see.

I was trying to get some head shots but he's kinda tricky to photogragh using over head flashes in the 550 - it takes a while to get him postitioned under the flashes

Lighter colored or white tanks are used to groom quality young aros. When placed in the lighter tank the pigment of the aro lightens providing a condition where shine can develop faster and higher. For best results it is best to keep them in the lighter tank until they are around 14 inches. There is a myth that the high shine from WTT will drop once they are moved to a darker tank - this is not true. You need to understand the difference between the ligher base color and the true shine. Once you have the shine it will stay there stay as long as you don't burn their backs with high output lighting.

I mentioned the dark tank to show that the color continues to get better and better with quality xb's even once put in a dark tank.

Wow. Nice

Thanks Theo. I am kind old school with the fact I like my aros in dark tanks I perfer the classic black gold look. Although I have a couple Cat "A" Gold heads here in white tank and the white tank look is really growing on me - solid gold bars :D. Sun glasses needed!:D

Thanks Marek!
