Thinking about trying one for fun. Any experience keepers out there? Was thinking of finding a 8 to 10 inch tiger ray to grow out. Is it possible to keep a tiger with leos down the road? And most importantly, how hard to get them eating pellets!?
 
There is a high death rate with them. I would reccomend keeping it alone or with a 4-5" pup of another speices at first. I'm not sure what your water parameters are but be prepared to run a blend of r/o with tap. I keep these rays at a higher temp especially a small tiger like that so run your temp around 84-86 to start. Be prepared when it comes and have lots of live blackworms available and then lots of canadian nightcrawlers, remember at this size it is still very young. Don't even bother with pellets at first, once you get it fattened up on worms and healthy then start mixing in shrimp. They are one of the hardest rays to get eating pellets. Your black rays are probably the easiest to get eating pellets. Let me know if you do get one as I'm kinda looking for a female to go with my male eventually. My tiger and flower rays are kept in my community tank with lots of different rays but they are bigger and have been in captivity for a long time.
 
Hmm maybe i better rethink this idea lol. Last thing i need is feeding blackworms and devote a ton of time.

yeah...sounds like a lot of work!...maybe buy one that is older and acclimatized to our water and food!

never give up too quickly on something you want to try!
 
They are totally worth it as they look so nice. You probably will never find one that has been in captivity for over two years as either they are dead or no one will sell there's as there are very few over here that live past this point. I say go for it but just be prepared.
 
I'm actually at a tough point now as my male tiger is really pushing hard to breed my female flower which is stressing her out and she has cut her eating in half, the only problem is none of my spare tanks are great to move my male tiger over do to other aggressive males allready in them cause the got to overly aggressive during breeding. Lol, I think I'm the only person trying really hard to stop my rays from breeding but am having no luck.

Hahaha. Too much fun lol. Quit feeding oysters to them scott! Jk.

Ill probably have to think this tiger ray idea through. Sounds more work than what i want to put in. Maybe when im done school ill try one for the challenge. In the meantime, ill bug you for pics of your tigers lol.
