Anyone here into Watches? I'm just getting into them...wife bought me a nice Breitling for our 10th anniversary a few years ago, I've recently purchased an Oris F1......I have a few friends with Panerai's. Panerai's are awesome looking watches....considering picking one up...anyone know of these watches?

yeah...the Chairman of my company has lots of these watches so I'm just getting into them. Some Panerais cost more then the top Rolex. I'm waaaay to young to wear something like a rolex but a panerai...MOST people wouldn't know what they are. I would NOT feel comfortable wearing a rolex but the Panis...no problem..I'd still cover it up though:-)

Only one place in ontario carries panerai's...that's Humbertown...going to head there tomorrow and look at them...

do you mind if telling which PAM models your dad has?

There are sooo many types....

He has a couple from the luminor series like the marina automatic with a black face and strap..
he also has a special edition radiomir chrono which i think goes for a good amount

I knew a guy who got into collecting WW2 aviator watches, back in the late 1980's. Had around a dozen of them, seemed to have some story behind each one. A lot of them had engravings on back from the original owners detailing the squadron, flight position and such. I thought these watches made for interesting collectables. I wonder if contemporary Gulf War aviator watches are being collected?

Wow! that's a great story if you have one of those watches!

My father brought me back a "Rolex" from China. He bought it from a street vendor there. I'm not sure why but it doesnt seem to be the same quality as the ones I've seen in stores here. :D

Just came home with a Panerai PAM 268. :-). Wife shit on me! But worth the 5 min of barking! But I'm all good now and I get to keep her! ( I mean the watch ) :-)

i bought my first watch when i turned 30 a few years back.....stainless steel Rolex Oyster Date......looking forward to getting a gold or platinum president when i hit my mid 40s.....i find that they are timeless pieces that never go out of style......

Old trick to tell the difference between a real and fake: a real one has a second hand that sweeps the dial in a continuous flow, never really stopping between seconds; a fake will move the second hand tick-tick-tick like any old school Timex. ;)

Heh Chen, gotta choose those battles carefully. :D

Lol, I've decided on panerai over the rolex due to panerais being " stealth ". My panni 268 is big but no one really know what it is so I won't be scared to wear it.

I am obsessed:

Currently have Rolex submariner, Tag Grand Carrera, and Panerai "Daylight'

Next will be IWC top gun with the kevlar strap...in case I ever get shot in the wrist.

Yeah was looking at both the sub and iwc before i decided on the panerai Pam 268. I'll look at iwc perhaps next year.

Just like the fact that most people won't know what I'm wearing most of the time when I have my pani on.
