Aro jumped

Last night after work I opened the lid on my tank to feed my aro and rays. My red aro jumped out bounced a couple times on the lid and then fell about 4' or so behind my tank between the stand and the wall. It landed on an old piece of trim that I removed from the stand which had nails sticking out about 10" apart. 1 inch either way and the fish would have been impaled on a nail. After a few very stressful minutes I was able to return the fish to the tank with only 6 scales missing and no other obvious damage. It proceeded to eat less than an hour after being re-introduced into the tank and today is swimming like nothing even happened . I can't believe how tough/lucky these fish really are!

WOW.....lucky fish! you never know when they get spooked..I've always keep a very close eye when feeding my aros and more so only put in the food when they are away from where my hands are so they don't jump.....at the end of the day, your aro is still young and the scales will grow back in no time!....

Wow, you and the aro are lucky! My green aro keeps on getting scrapes in my planted tank. I don't know if it's from the drift wood or from the lids. I may have to change the decor but I really like the way it looks now. Hopefully when he gets bigger he will settle down (same for your red).

Any more escape attempts and you will have to get your blood pressure checked!:)

since someone brought up the topic; actually my 18" red aro jumped out the 220gal tank last week in the middle of night.
i am gladed that i don't have late night shift and i did heard the noise from my room with the door close. it jumped from 5' height. it didn't eat for 4 days, and 1/4 of anal fin has torn off. my tank has 3 glass lids, i put weights on each end, but i didn't put weight at the middle glass lid, and thats where it jumps out.
therefore, every aro keeper, be caution.

Stories like scare the crap out of me. I worry about my RTG every day and soon I'll have to worry about my chili. I've plugged every possible hole on the chili's tank and he's too little to move glass lids so far, lol.

Yes, RTG is a very strong fish.... I never see them sleep and not swim. I happy your ending was good. Good luck with your RTG and hope he/she recovers they usually get there scales back very quickly.
