Injured Silver

I just picked up this young guy for $75 off of Nick at Fishworld Surrey BC. Apparently he'd been in a scrap with a red devil. His Barbels are injured, he has a bruised eye, and somevery minor scal scrapes.

Let me know what you guys think... Will his Barbels grow back? I am pretty sure his bruised eye will heal. It is my first Arowana, have been dying to get one. I think other than the injuries, he is a pretty good specimen.

Keep a high temperature (30-32c)
Add some salt (1 tablespoon per 5 gallons)
Eye and scales will heal fine with some time.

Barbels, they might grow back, they might not..

It looks like a black aro.

I know...But it was sold as a silver... I think they messed up. Well its good news for me, blacks go for a lot more if I am not mistaken. One of the cheaper arows but more than a silver.

I keep my tank lighlty salted always. I am trying to raise the temp, my heaters are having a hard time this winter. I am in a new house and it isnt the best at keeping its heat.
I really hope they grow back.

Insulate your tank. Use foam around the glass for now to keep the heat in. Looks ugly but a cheap solution until you can figure out how to keep your house warm.

A very dark looking silver. Not a black. Probably the lighting.
To me, the barbels look like they will grow back... perhaps not in perfect shape, but they should come out.
As mentioned, jack up the heat, add salt. Eye and scales should heal in no time. Barbels will take a little longer.

Yes I think your right. It has lightened up a bit since I first got it. It is definately a silver.... There are signs that the barbels are groing back aswell :)
Two very disticnt petrusions have stared to curl upward out of the wound.

The fins are a bit tatty; will those grow back?

The fins will grow back for sure. The barbells also look like they will grow back since they were not completly torn off.. In the second pic, it looks like he rubbed his eye against the inside of a bucket or what ever he was trasported in. At least i have seen that many times in other fish that were transported in a bucket. It heals fast.
