Ray's and PH

I just want to double check with the Pro's before i get too deep into the pics on here and try buying some.....
Ive kept motoro before with no problems but I also was regulating PH and this is no longer an option...
I have a PH of 8 right out of my tap and i will be running a continuious drip system on my tank.
I dont want to try and beat the drip with buffers or peat because it is a never winning battle and i will just end up stressing the fish out.
Is it possible to get rays used to this high of a ph? How would one go about this without stressing them out and loosing them?
I know how to take the time from the styro box to the tank but this is within an hour or two.... should this high of a PH take a week or more or will the couple hours be enough?

The only rays that have been harder to acclimate due to the high ph has been flowers and tigers but even then if your prepared and have some live blackworms on hand they seem to start eating fairly soon. All of my rays are in a ph of 8+ right now and breeding great and doing great. If you can find captive bred pups or rays that have been in captivity for awhile then you will have no problems if your tank is fully cycled when you recieve them.

Hustler...sometime science isn't always right and that it's more beneficial to touch base with folks like Sky who's got a tonne of experience....hence why we have this forum!. Always good to take the proper precaution and ask any and all questions like what you've done!...don't forget that what works for others may not necessary always work for others...in most cases you're safe.... :-) good luck in getting everything set up...

I completly agree with the above.....

As for acclimating to PH, it takes weeks... you wont be able to acclimate a fish in a matter of hours.

So.... that being said..... If i order a batch of leopardi's from ontario or even asia I should have an acclimation tank set up and buffered like a discus tank ready and running to do a slow drip to the 8. ph?

Im not trying to beat a dead horse..... Its just with the asian aros...... I was told a ph of 5.5-7....... and i have 8 or higher.... and spent years..... YEARS with tea water in my tanks, Fighting seachems 7.0 buffer and still i would get 8.0........ Till i gave up and just did water changes with a damn 5 gallon pail.... I had clear water and happy aro's that grew and were no longer stressed out.....
With rays there is no give from what i have seen. If it isnt what they like you get the curl and a dead ray..... or a fussy eater ect ect.
I want to do right by my pets, but with the means i have and right now my means is 8.0 ph lol

Leos are a very hardy and a tough ray. You are actually better off getting a wildcaught than getting a ray from Asia as the shipping time is usually very long and will result in alot of complications due to this. Since this is your first ray I would reccomend getting a captive bred say from Mike at H2O (one of the only guys that do captive bred leos). Captive bred rays are very forgiving and to me are usually better looking than most wildcaughts.
Allways have quarantine tank setup for new rays as they sometime require alot more attention and can carry disease. Don't bother even trying to adjust the ph as with rays they require alot of waterchanges and they produce alot of ammonia so chances are you will get alot of ph bounce trying to play with the ph. Ph bounce is very hard on rays and is probably the reason for most new ray keepers having there first ray die.
