Stingray abbreviations or acronyms

What is a SP ray? Got any more for us newbie ray guys?
PDR = polka dot ray
BDL= black diamond leopoldi
MM= marble motoro
 
SP = hybrid ray

ex. henlei x marble. we call it henlei sp (what i notice is ppl call it the better type of ray then sp)
 
SP = is a Asian term more then anything else. it's suppose to mean "Special" and is meant for any hybrid rays!
 
sp stands for species
eg Potamotrygon sp. Pearl
When a species is undescribed they will usually use sp short for species and then a desciption of looks, location, ect...

but the asian sp means something totally different.they use it for a easy health certification.when i made those 3 orders all rays were classified as potamotrygon "sp"
i did ask him why,it was because he claimed it was cheaper that way

this could go back and fourth but mostly i think its used in asian market for their specail mutt rays they dont even know what they are!!

It still stands for species but they did not give a discription after or name but still refers to an undescribed species. Alot of the people doing hybrids don't want anyone to know what they are crossing or don't have any idea themselves so they just leave it at sp.
This term is also used with other fish.
 
Difference between sp. and SP

- sp (lowercase) does indeed stand for species i.e. Potomotrygon sp.
-SP (uppercase) stands for special and is a term coming out of Asia for some of the hybrids being created over there.

I think GOYW is truly arowanaclub.ca, and definitely reserved for Canadian hobbyists :D
