white patches on new motoro

Was she wildcaught or captive bred? Was there any marks on her before? What was the ph of your tank when you put her in? I'm guessing it is a ph burn.

Won't be heater burns due to it is around the disc edge.

Could be a possiblity but if he didn't see it at the store I'm still leaning to a ph burn. Do you know where they were imported from?
 
Ya it's from riverfront and I noticed it there but thought it could have been an injury I put her in my q tank should have done that in the first place. Wat should I do with my aro tank? With my luck everyones gonna get it. Water change and salt? Anything else I can do? Thx bros lucky matt seen the thread thx bro
 
Fungus doesn't eat live animals.... bacteria does.

That is not a fungus on your ray. The only way that that could be a fungal infection is if that tissue it is on, was dead. The fungus is not the reason that tissue would be dead.. IF it were a fungus, it would be most likely be Saprolegnia. While the fungus could kill the ray eventually, it doesn't look like that.


Looks bacterial to me. Or could even be a PH burn, like skynoch mentioned.

That ray didn't die from any fungal attack though.
 
well i pointed out when i picked her up.an employee said it was an injury so they no i no something was up ill just try to treat her and nurse her back up. i only got gold fish in my q tank.if all fails ill give them a shout.And ill just have to go bigger and get a leo lol.Anyone no where i can get 1?

If you buy an injured fish, and you know its injured,.... but buy it anyway...

Then get it home and it succumbs to a fungal infection(which is secondary to the injury AND preventable)

Thens its your fault... should have never bought the injured ray...



This is not a flesh eating fungal infection though.... That doesn't even exist. Not in the terms they are being put out to you anyway. ANY fungus is SECONDARY. Fungus is not like a virus, or parasite, looking for a host. Anything fungal is secondary.

Matts fish didnt die from a flesh eating fungal infection..... unless every fish he purchased was injured in some way.... then once home, they were in bad enough conditions for the fungal infection to set in....


If this is the case with all of this stores fish.... then im leaning towards bacterial... or even some sort of parasite.... either way, you'll want to get your facts straight befor making any calls to them, or accusing them of this sorta thing... never know, you might end up talking to somone there that knows what they are talking about, and you may end up looking silly.

I was going to say that I've never heard of a flesh eating fungal before either....more bacteria infection ammonia burn? water quality?
 
i am not saying its the stores fault 90pecent of my fish including my aro came from there and the store owner has taught me alot .but when i read matts reply and warning it worrys me. Thats y i havent contacted the store yet,maybe able to nurse her back . i have check my ph and it is reading pretty high i add some down solution and did a water change.i was thinking about adding KANAPLEX what are ur guyz views on the product for this situation?thinking of dosing quater dose.

A friend of mine just got a wild hystrix to add to his collection. It had markings similar to what's in this thread.

It was determined to be ammonia burn from shipping. It healed within 10 days or so.
 
I tried thrown down sum shrimp yesterday but nuttin she just got in the tank yesterday so probably not eattin cuz she's Not comfortable yet I hope.

You definetly don't want to start adjusting your ph in your tank. What will happen is your tank will show the ph going down but in a day or less it will bounce back up to whatever the tap ph is unless your water is need of changing. I'm thinking more than likely it was a ph burn from when riverfront brought it in.
It's best to never mess with your ph in your tank and just use treated tap water.
For now I would just make sure to do some waterchanges with water you treat outside your tank with a good conditioner like prime, turn out the tank lights and cover 2/3 of your tank with a blanket. It will just take some time to heal so clean water will be your best bet for now.

Okay if this is still on there we are going to need some more info. Like motoro said if it is still on there chances are that it is bacterial and it may need to be medicated.

-Readings for the following before and after the waterchange
PH-
Ammonia-
Nitrite-
Nitrate-
-tap water reading for gh/kh
-Water temp
-What is your water change schedule (how often and how much)
-Type and depth of substrate
-How long has your tank been set up?
-Method of aeration of water
-When was the last time you cleaned tank and substrate? And usual schedule
-What size tank do you have? (gallons/liters and footprint)
-What type of filtration are you using in your tank?
-Pics of your ray and full tank shot
-Tankmates and size of tankmates
-What and how often do the ray(s) eat and last time fed
-How big is your ray(s) and how long have you had it
