My Merlion Harmony Ultimate XB

Here are some photos of my Merlion Harmony Ultimate XB. I took the photos a couple of days ago. The fish is still getting settled, eats market prawn every other day. I will have to fiddle with lighting as the photos do not accurately capture the colour of the shine in my opinion.

Theo, it looks absolutely beautiful. Don't forget my 8"-10" aro from next Dreamfish order. I still want to have a 24K FGH Ultimate Royal in my tank. Lol

Check out the development of this fish; unlike any I have had before. Note the combination of red and gold features. The gill plate has red for sure, as does the tail and rim of scales. Meanwhile there is definite blue base, along with gold core. And also strong gold threads on head indicating GH genes in there too. A very interesting fish that keeps changing...

I am going to be out of country for most of summer, makes sense to sell some of my more expensive stock so as to lessen risk.

Thus, this fellow is now available for sale at Fantasy Aquatics in Vancouver. Here is a video taken right after fish was released today:

Update of the fish made on July 13, 2013; one video without flash, one with flash:

Below are a couple phone camera photos taken as well, both using the phone's built in flash. Note the red colouration of the gill plate. The fish definitely has BBXB/SR/Gold XB and Tong Yan characteristics. Interesting fish to watch develop.

wow looks amazing. So I take it the aro never sold while you where on holidays over the summer? May I ask how much fantasy was selling the aro for?

He really is an great looking fish. Looking to obtain my first aro once I finish up my current project. How much is an aro of this quality in BC?

Also why are aro's cheaper outside of BC, especially back east? Don't all those cheaper east coast aro's have to be shipped into BC first?

This guy is sold now. Retail price for a fish like that is all over the map, from $1700-2500 being the main range. Fantasy had this fish listed for $3500 which actually made me blush a bit. A few years ago that was the going asking rate for a high end fish of this quality. Now you had better hope that fish has full GH to command that asking price. But then I don't own a store and have all those overhead costs either, so I guess its up to a store to ask whatever price they think the market will bear.

I find some buyers in BC are willing to pay a premium for a quality fish in which case it can sell for more than you might expect. For such cases it often helps to have the fish on hand and to invest some time in grooming the fish. Its important to note that this fish was a Merlion Ultimate grade Harmony XB. For a regular prestige grade I should be able to pass on savings.

I have learned over the years of two main ways to import aros - the more expensive high end ones or the less expensive regular grade ones. Provided the farm supplies what they promise everything works out fine. If a farm makes a mistake somehow it is critical for the farm to make amends for the customer. A good farm that wants to be in this competitive market long term will do that.

Dreamfish is the first farm I have dealt with that offers a split run of fish. The lower priced fish are of good quality and should be on par price-wise with what you can find in eastern Canada. The higher end fish are as good as you can get in my opinion. Thus, Dreamfish currently offers a full line of fish that appeal to all aspects of the market.

Let me know when you want a fish and I will be happy to try and help out. :)

Such a beautiful fish.... One day I will own one. I agree about dreamfish quality, they are either really picky about what fish leaves their farm. Or they have a great breeding program. I suspect it's the latter. It would of been impossible for me to send 3500 dollars overseas for a fish I have not seen in person. But after my last dreamfish buy I would not hesitate to spend the cash on the higher end dreamfish.
